Does everybody else have days where all you want is to feel comfortable? Where the thought of wearing anything other than pyjamas borders on daunting? This is me most of the time. I don’t wear make-up to work because I would end up looking like a hot mess two hours in, my hair is normally pulled back off my face in a ponytail so it doesn’t get it my way, and because I’m moving around so much during the day I’m always dressed in Active Wear.
I know I’m not much to look at, but I feel that this helps me get my job done to the best of my abilities and let’s face it, the only people who are there to see me are a bunch of perspiring teenaged girls who are too busy looking at themselves in the floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
It only really becomes a problem when my friends ask me to do things with them after work. Normally I’m rushing straight from work to sushi/movies/salsa classes and I honestly couldn’t be bothered to make an effort with my appearance. I know that I should and so have decided to make more of an effort to do so.
My first test came last Monday afternoon when, due to a cancelled lesson, I was able to meet up with Adeline to see a movie. Sitting still for two hours isn’t really my forte, and if I’m wearing anything slightly restrictive such as a belt, stiff denim or anything fitted I spend the whole time fidgeting.
So I picked the most comfortable things in my wardrobe that weren’t made of Lycra. With the elasticised skirt, loose top and the best sandals I have ever worn, I didn’t even notice that I wasn’t wearing Active Wear for the whole film.
Is there such a thing as a mid-year resolution? Because I’ve decided that this is mine.
