Get On Board With Double Denim

I often look at the shows from fashion weeks around the globe and wonder to myself: are trends even really a “thing” anymore? There are military inspired collections alongside uber feminine pieces, pastels one show and dark, moody colours the next.

I mean sure, women of the world are going crop-top crazy at the moment, and the whole androgynous look for women has been heavily featured in fashion for the last few years, but when it comes down to it, I think these days there seems to be an almost limitless amount of designs, silhouettes, patterns, colours and aesthetics that could be considered “in”.

Take the double denim trend for example. Once considered the ultimate fashion faux pas (and I think we can all thank Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears’ 2001 American Music Awards for that), double denim has made a huge comeback, and not just for a season, it’s been big for the last few years.

Everyone from celebrities to teenagers are embracing it, and I’ve decided to as well. Most likely you have some trusty denim staples lurking in your wardrobe somewhere: a chambray shirt, jacket, skirt or straight leg jeans.

I think we all embrace the enduring street smarts of denim, so why not double up for a fresh take on your favourite pieces? After all, if my theory is correct, it’ll be not only acceptable, but fashionable for a long time yet.
