New Romantic

For me, fashion inspiration comes from all different mediums. I remember reading my first “Girlfriend” magazine and coveting the clothes in the editorials when I was 16. A few years later it was the unobtainable haute couture collections splashed across the pages of Vogue.

Nowadays, in addition to magazines, I find inspiration everywhere: movies, Instagram, blogs, fashion shows, people I encounter as I go about my day. At the moment, no matter where I turn to for ideas, I am seeing feature sleeves: flares, bell and puff.

I’m thrilled. My feminine spirit has prevailed through seasons of neon, razor sharp silhouettes and the androgynous trend, all the while hoping for all things romantic to make a comeback. Thank you, fashion Gods, for smiling on me.

I had been partial to the off-shoulder, bell sleeved tops nailed by Australian designers Ellery and Camilla and Marc, but as of recent my attention has been caught by all things puff. Elena Perminova pulled them off perfectly on two separate occasions during Paris Fashion Week with a khaki jacket and voluminous white blouse, and you can find sleeves of this nature in almost every current collection (they are heavily featured in Zimmermann’s latest ready-to-wear collection).

I can unashamedly say I’m a little obsessed. Already a fan of all things soft and floaty, I think the high neck of this particular blouse lends a Victorian elegance to it.

I’m on the lookout for as many of these as I can get my hands on! What about you, fashion lovers? Do you have a favourite trend you’re obsessing over?
