Going Home

I don’t get the opportunity to go home very often, and this year one of my resolutions was to make it happen as frequently as I could manage. Home is a small country town in Far North Queensland. It doesn’t boast anything particularly unique or spectacular, but it’s the place of my childhood sleepovers, birthday parties and school excursions. My school, first ballet studio, primary-school-friend’s houses and best of all, my parents.

I know this is completely ridiculous, but I have always, dating back to the first time I returned home after moving away in 2006, wanted to make a good impression when I step off the plane.

I love my parents like crazy, and I know that they wouldn’t care if I turned up in a Winnie-The-Pooh onesie. I just can’t shake the feeling that I need to really make an effort when they first see me. I then proceed to laze around the house in my pyjamas and active wear for the remainder of my trip. Like I said, it makes no sense, but pride and ego are fickle things.

Obviously I always want to wear my current favourite piece in my wardrobe. The last time I went home, it happened to be this dress.

Yellow is such a cheerful colour, and I had at least five people tell me as much while I was waiting to board my plane. I’ve waxed poetic about the lack of colour in winter fashion before, so this dress was a burst of sunshine in my wardrobe and an obvious choice for me.

The first thing my Mum said when she was saw me was, “I love your dress”, and even Dad smiled and nodded. #Winning.

  5. I can’t stand how winter clothing is so drab and dull. I can’t understand why people want to match the weather. I make it a habit of wearing bright colour and own 3 yellow jumpers at the very least

  6. Edit, I just love that dress, it seems like a modern 70s style, very fun and playful and of course I adore the colour
