The countdown to Christmas has entered its final phase. One week to go, and it seems the entire Western world has gone into meltdown.
There’s a frenetic energy that’s exciting and adrenaline-inducing, what with all the wrapping, card-writing, baking, decorating and end-of-year parties. With the festive spirit at an all-time high, I thought it was appropriate to give you all a Christmas outfit to end all Christmas outfits.
I’ve spent many a Christmas in my bathing suit, sitting lake-side in folding chairs with family, but there’s such a sense of occasion when you make the effort to dress up on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day for a formal dinner, and no better thing for it than a red dress.
I was originally after a fun and youthful red dress such as this one. But on a recent trip to Sydney, I was walking past Zara (of all places) and saw this dress hanging on a rack. It is the most beautiful shade of red I have ever seen, the long back makes my (previously thought-to-be extinct) inner goddess shake her pom-poms in the air, the shorter front saves it from being a ball gown, it’s the most comfortable thing I’ve ever put on and for such an exquisite dress, the price was affordable. I don’t think I’ve ever worn something so dramatic, and I was loving every minute of it. Just feeling the skirt flow behind me as I was walking infused a little bit of confidence into every step I took.
Because the dress was free from embellishment, I was able to go to town with the accessories and choose really special, party-ready pieces to up the glamour factor.
I’ve finally gotten on board with the choker trend, but have been looking for silver, gold, and embellished chokers rather than thick black leather ones. When I discovered Amber Sceats’ range, I knew I’d hit the mother load. If anyone is wondering what to get me for Christmas, I’ll take one each of this one, this one, this one and this one, please and thank you.
I hope this last week until Christmas is a special and exciting time for you and all your loved-ones. May you have loads of luck finding a parking space at shopping centres, and a generally stress-free week. I’ve curated a little list of my favourite red dress options for Christmas here, here, here, here and here.
