I’ve always appreciated frills, ruffles and layers, so when I caught wind of this skirt, I felt like I needed to put it on and start a conga line around the shop.
I wanted to find a pair of big, bright earrings (the practical version of a fruit hat), pull out my most colourful shoes, grab a set of maracas and have a bit of a shimmy.
I’m probably crossing a few different cultures with that mental picture, but it’s what flitted through my brain.
Because I don’t believe in doing things by halves, I went and added a top with more frills. By the time I was dressed, I felt like I was ready to step out to dinner on holiday in some warm locale.
I’ve never used Carmen Miranda as style inspiration before, but hey, if the skirt fits!
