I think of myself as blessed to have so many great friends. I don’t have a huge group who all hang out together. Instead, I’ve been fortunate enough to pick up some priceless gems here and there along the journey of life.
Most of them, admittedly, I met through ballet, but as I spent 4 years training at a studio on the Gold Coast, 6 years teaching there and the past two years as its Artistic Director, most of them never crossed paths and I met at different periods of time.
Sometimes it’s hard to be a good friend. Life is so incredibly busy and we are all moving in different directions, so I’m very grateful for the friendships I have that aren’t high maintenance. You know the people I mean; the ones you can go months without seeing, and yet when you do it’s as though nothing has changed. You are so comfortable with one another that your friendships picks up seamlessly from where it left off.
Lucy is one friend that fits in to this category. I met Lucy when her and her family rescued me from serious homesickness and a dodgy living situation when I was 14. I lived with her and her family for a year. Maybe it was because we spent every waking minute of those twelve months with one another, maybe it was the amount of tears cried over cruskits and rice cakes of an afternoon, or maybe it was just the amount of crap we went through together, but it’s been 10 years since I lived with her family and Lucy still gets me 100%.

So much so, that a few weekends ago, I got a message from Lucy with a photo of the top I’m wearing in today’s post saying, “You need this in your life, on your blog & I expect full credit for the style choice 😜”. My eyes kind of jumped out of my head and I replied, “Lol I bought it yesterday 😂😂😂”.
I love the fact that Lucy still knows me so well. I love that despite her now being the mother of the cutest little girl I’ve ever seen, running open dance classes, a blog (it’s called “Finding Joy“, it’s amazing and you need to go and check it out stat), teaching and being the most organised person I know, and me running a full-time ballet school, we still have this connection after all this time.
