No matter how much my style evolves and matures, it always involves a healthy does of cute. Whether it’s a pattern I stray towards, accessories I add or the pieces I pair together, I always find myself looking at the finished product in the mirror and thinking it looks a little more twee than I first intended.
I found this dress on a recent trip to Sydney, and it caught my eye because of the little parrot pattern in the jacquard (see what I mean about cute), and the jewel tones when I turned the fabric in the light.
It’s winter in Australia at the moment, and July in Sydney is hardly the appropriate place for a sleeveless dress, but being the impatient person that I am, it was going to be worn by the end of the trip come hell or high water. Considering I found it on our second-last day there, I had to mentally rummage through my suitcase to see what I’d brought with me that could work.
Dress, Maje, Shirt, Witchery, Stockings, Alannah Hill, Boots, Wittner, Bag, Kate Spade (similar here), Earrings, By Charlotte, By Charlotte and By Charlotte and Rings, By Charlotte and By Charlotte
I ended up adding some seamed stockings (because, winter), lace (because, me) and boots (to stop the whole thing from crossing over into the kitsch category).
This was the finished result. One part colourful, two parts winter and 100% my brand of cute.

I’m the same, I tend to wear something cute and usually retro inspired. That’s just the way I dress and I just can’t escape it so I won’t bother. In a way I just can’t ever dress my age!
