“In reality, a few years’ difference in the dates of our births, a few more miles between certain houses, the choice of one university instead of another, posting to different regiments, the accident of a topic being raised or not raised at a first meeting—any of these chances might have kept us apart.”
~ C.S. Lewis
All friendships are serendipitous, don’t you think? We owe one of the most important elements of our humanity, in fact the very thing that weaves our society together, to fortunate happenstance.
My students tell me that the best sort of friendships are the unexpected ones, and I have to agree. The ones where you discover common ground with a person that you had never imagined to bond with can end up being your strongest connections.
Take Bethany and I for example. We first crossed paths when she was a 12-year-old student from Sydney and I was a 19-year-old teacher from the Gold Coast.
Even when Bethany started dancing at the studio I taught at, we didn’t have a whole lot to do with one another, and then she moved to Canada to dance for three years.
At the end of last year, Bethany returned to the studio that I now own. Maybe it was the fact that we’d both grown up a little bit, or just that we were moving through phases of our lives where someone to lean on was extremely welcome, or maybe the universe just decided the timing was right, but we hit it off straight away and haven’t looked back.
We have shared laughter, tears, irritations and frustrations, workout sessions, ideas, holidays and A LOT of Grill’d. No one can put away a burger as quickly or as elegantly as Bethany. There is not simply one single thing that holds our friendship together, which is why PANDORA’s new friendship range, rounded out with friendship bracelets, hearts and sentimental charms is perfect to individualise and represent every different friendship.
I’ve often thanked my lucky stars for my friends and the circumstances that threw us together. Serendipity is a complicated and magical little thing, so I’ve tried to infuse these photos with a whole lot of magic: golden light, fairy dresses, colour, balloons and laughter.
