Everyone loves a bit of vintage and a throwback when it comes to fashion, and everyone has their favourite era. Maybe you’re a 70’s darling and know how to rock flares, or you have a soft spot for drop-waist dresses a la 1920’s.
I like where we are with fashion now, which is a bit of a melting pot of culture and past trends, but I will admit to admiring clothes from the 1900’s and 1910’s. It’s the detail and delicacy that I love, and I’m always drawn to clothes with an influence from that era like this Zimmermann dress and this AJE top.
I remember seeing a “Picnic At Hanging Rock” inspired editorial in Vogue Australia March 2015. Phoebe Tonkin and Teresa Palmer were clad in then-current designs with a Victorian twist, and so I guess when I saw this dress, with its high neck and lace detail, I felt like it was a nod to the fashion of that time.
I also love that this is a fancy day dress. It’s easy to find clothes to go out in at night, and casual outfits are a piece of cake, but there’s something really special about this dress that makes it perfect for afternoon soirées, high teas, or end-of-year parties that may be during the day.
