Kia Ora from New Zealand everyone, where Jarrad and I are spending the next 10 days travelling. We arrived in Auckland yesterday, and spent the afternoon eating our way across the city.
We had woken up in Australia at 2.30am, and by the time we touched down in Auckland, it was 12.30pm (local time), and I was beyond ravenous. Knowing that I lose all sense of civility and become the very definition of hangry, we used Urbanlist to find somewhere worth eating. We only had 24 hours in Auckland, so we both agreed it had to count.
We ended up in Mount Eden at The Garden Shed– a little bistro and bar appropriately decorated with rustic shovels, trowls and watering cans. The bread (served in a little terracotta pot) was so warm and flaky it was almost a croissant and my pumpkin risotto is the best I’ve ever had. If you’re a local, or find yourself travelling to Auckland, I can not recommend The Garden Shed highly enough.
Thoroughly satisfied, we put on our walking shoes to explore the city. After a 10 kilometre walk, we found ourselves at/I knowingly and intentionally steered us to Crunch Tower Desserts in Parnell. I had seen their desserts on social media, plus they have the cutest wallpaper you’ve ever seen.
A chocolate Freakshake and a bubble waffle smothered in Nutella, Malteses, Ferraro Rocher ice cream (are you salivating yet?), whipped cream and fairy floss later, we waddled home to sleep off the worst (or best?) sugar coma either of us has ever had. If you love your desserts, Crunch Tower is your place. You can thank me later.
