I love any excuse to dress up, almost as much as I love to tick items off my bucket list. It just so happened that the two occurred simultaneously a few weeks ago when my friend James invited me to a Polo match.
I knew nothing about Polo except what I’d observed from watching “Pretty Woman” (admit it, you’re exactly the same). As far as I was concerned, it would be similar to the races, with a bit of divot stomping thrown in, right?
Apparently it’s not. The Polo is not nearly as formal as the races, but elegance is key. The whole vibe is very feminine, summery and light, so jumpsuits, maxi dresses, details, stylish accessories and cute prints are going to be perfect.
Fascinators are a big no-no for the Polo, but if you’re determined to wear a hat, look to the straw or wide brimmed varieties. Whilst we’re on the subject of accessories, think long and hard about your choice of footwear. You’ll be on your feet for hours at the Polo and stilettos are not your friends. Platforms, sandals or wedges are the best choice for your feet, because thin heels sink into the ground.
James and I had decided to colour co-ordinate our outfits, and I was growing concerned as the event grew nearer that I wouldn’t be able to find a suitable dress to match whatever it was he chose. In the end, I found this Zimmermann dress, and jumped the gun.
You guys know how much I love my florals, and with the little sleeves and modest hem length on this dress, I knew I’d found my winner.
